Hi people!

There will be a march holiday band camp to gear up for our SYF. Hope you guys will really put in your effort to brush up and practice hard during this camp, we're on our way to a sliver/gold. Play with feeling yeah. Playing good music is just like writting an essay; you want to impress someone by describing feelings and writing a story using emotions, it's just like playing music, we're trying to tell a story and to make them know the story, we have to play with emotion and with heart. That's what all muscian does. (Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, The script etc HAHAHA)

So here's the activities lined up for the band camp!

Nov/Dec holiday vacation practices.

Hi Bandsmen,

Hope you guys did well for your EOYE, we shall stop with everything and start to gear up for next year's SYF - yes, 2011 Singapore Youth Festival. GOLD. I want it, Shaid wants it, the whole band wants it, let's don't disappoint our faithful seniors that have been with us and stepped down not long ago, they contributed alot to the band, I'm sure, unless you're heartless :|, really sense the hard work that our dearest seniors have put in us - the whole band and want to make them proud. Without them, there won't be how we are today. Just put in our maximum hard work.
I know none of you guys will really get what i mean, or even, none of the band will really know the importance of this competition. If you want to be proud in this CCA, then prove it. If you want to have fun, prove it to us. Success doesn't come with hard work because behind every success, there's always going to be alot, alot of hard work that's being put in. I'm sure everyone will have alot of fun and bonding with the whole band through all these hardwork and journey in getting our Gold. Don't stop believing, no matter how discourage you are, just keep holding on, push each other, motivate each other. We'll get gold for 2011 SYF. We will make history. JIAYOU! This holiday and the early year of 2011 will be tough, but soon we'll see our hard work being paid off! :-)

Upcoming band camp.

Hi bandsmen,

June holidays are coming to an end, and we're going to end our holidays with a 3D2N band camp! Isn't that awesome? ;)
Well, yes I know, this band camp will be a tiring one, but look on the bright side: working hard for the concert and you get to achieve a successful concert through your hard work - The feeling of being successful. Seriously, it's time for us to really polish up our pieces of songs. Success won't come without hardwork, so please, don't be break our promises. Action speaks louder than words; You guys said you want the upcoming concert to be a success, so why don't i see you guys putting any effort in practicing? I know few does, well that's great. We need to move together as one. Please don't be discouraged when we sounded bad. When one does, eventually, he/she will not put in any more effort to improve, which will also influence others to have the same mindset too and what's the outcome? we'll sound even worse! It's just few more weeks to our concert, or to be exact, 36 more days from today. I hope you guys can move each other; like get a source of motivation from one another, to improve our playing skills together because we're a band, one sound.

For those who did not attend previous band practice and wants to come for band camp, here are the info:

Hey Bandsmen,

I need each of you guys to collate the number of tickets you guys need to sell by this coming band practice, which is 19 May, Wednesday so that the tickets can be printed asap . Minimum requirement for each person to sell is 10 tickets. You can invite your primary school friends, family and relatives alright! Die die must sell at least 10 tickets alright :) hahaha.

December 30th was certainly a memorable day isn't it? Passing Out Parade, just in case some of you have forgotten. I hope you have realised that time passes by very, very quickly. And now that we're in a fast-paced country, time passes by even faster. Treasure the moments you share with the older members. Don't always take them for granted for they are the ones who groom you and teach you what you are playing today.

And to the sec 3's, all the best for your O's. Lets all make the band proud. :)

Urgent!

Hey guys this is regarding setting up an alumni band. I know it has been delayed for quite some time but I have been busy. So yeah. Anyways I already got the permission to set it up. Though there is an issue. The VP wants my help in setting up the whole alumni not just for the band. And I had a hard time finding pple who are interested in leading the whole thing. The reasons that they gave are busy with work or school. Well. I think it's a bit lame. Cos who isnt?

Anyways, that aside. I had already emailed the VP again asking if we can just go ahead with opening the school on Saturdays for alumni band practices regardless of whether I found pple for the whole alumni or not. Still awaiting for his reply.

For those of you who are keen, and when I say keen means, not absenting oneself from practice (exceptions: sick with MC, or booked holidays). Please provide me with your contact numbers and full names. I need those so that I can tabulate how many is interested and KEEN. If less than 20. The alumni band would not work.

Heyhey! Friday was fun. I'm sure that was the best night we have had as a band. :) Let's do it again sometime soon yea?

Congrats to the band for putting up such a wonderful, wonderful performance. We should also thank Jasen for putting up such a wonderful show after our performance. *THANKS*

But amongst all the fun, I certainly do hope that this experience has bonded the band closer together. If we put our mind to it, we can do it. So yeah, lets party again sometime soon yea?

Hakim here to update the band blog, again. So yeah, now its the holidays. Enjoy yourself, and take care of yourself as well. Study hard, play hard. ☺

Heh. But don't forget, you still have to attend the holiday practice. I know, it takes up alot of your time. I feel the same way. But please, sometimes you need to have the sense of urgency and you must also have patience.

Fadly mentioned that there will be Band Practice because he feels that there is room for improvement. I know that you all, or at least most, have given their best.

Hello. I just came to update the blog.

How have you all found the lastest band practices? I know that most of you do not enjoy marching. If you all find it hard to cope, then what about Kee Yan? Just so you know, its not an easy thing to do when you have to stand infront of the whole band and shoot out orders. So yeah, cope with it. The current sec 3's and 4's have gone through that before and we felt what you have gone through. Marching isn't always that boring. There are learning points to it. Its just a matter of fact whether you want to learn it or not and whether you have any initiative to know what they are.

3E1 band members will not be attending band until Wednesday, 5th of August, due to certain things. I would like to remind you to take care of your health and stay healthy, esp during this period of time.

So yeah, today's post shall end here. :)

Once again, I am here to do the updating of the band blog.
Because its been a while since I updated this blog. :)
Yes, I used the word I. Cause normally I'd be the one who updates the blog.

So yeah. The Music Fiesta is coming up.
This Sunday to be precise.
Venue: Botanic Gardens,
Time: About 5pm to about 7pm.
Entry is free.
Open to all.
:)

But then, don't just go there to have fun &/or listen to them play.
Learn something from them(the performers).
They must have been a good band to be able to perform at Botanic Gardens.
Not that I'm saying that we suck or anything.
Its just that we take time to be able to conquer them.
:D

So yeah,
take the trip to the Botanic Gardens as a learning experience, like what the seniors always said.

But I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed the camp and that you have learnt many things throughout the one day we had together. The reflection is optional, but it would be great if you could do it. As for the clothes, you are required to bring your P.E attire, a black tee, your number-one tee and other tee's of any other colour. Amongst your clothes, there must be the P.E attire, a black tee and a number-one tee. Shoes, we'll keep it standard. School shoes. If there are any queries, email me. Regarding the Band Camp, you will be informed and further briefed tomorrow.

Yes. The Organizing Commitee is trying their best to make the upcoming Camp a worthwhile one. So do enjoy yourself. But nonetheless, the purpose of the camp is simply to bond you (the sec ones') with the other members and vice versa. Remember the 3 R's. Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. All three are equally important. No one is perfect. Even I am learning from my mistakes. So should you guys. Listen to the song on the sidebar. Its meant for everyone. We're all in this together. Like Aqilah once said. "There's no I in We." One Band, One Sound. :)

Alumni News

Calling all Alumni, who wish to join JYSB Alumni family to inform Syabrina for some administration purposes.

A little update on the "JYSB Alumni", currently Syabrina & Erika is doing up the proposal for submission to the school. Once the proposal been approved, we could start the practices as planned.

Proposed day(s) of practice: On Every Saturdays.

Time: Preferabbly 1pm to 7pm (or earlier)

Any quieries do asked Syabrina directly. Or simply leave a tag. =)

Band

The 3 Days & 2 Night band camp as scheduled by Mr Lau, will be on 22th -24th June 2009. Mon, Tues & Wed. Attendance should be compulsory for the Juniors but optional for the Graduating Seniors. Nevertheless, do try your very best to come for the camp.

Feel free to speak up and tag what you guys would likely want for the camp. As in the activities so that it could be made possible. Reasonable activities please. Anyway, its your camp so yeah, open to suggestions.

anyway to tell you that dont be sad ok. :D
its part and parcell of life.
i know some of you are dissappoint with yourself.
well me too. but u knw wad. i am proud of you guys.
im sure the seniors, teachers and especially Mr. Goh too.
you heard what they had said.
dont be sad over the result.
we may not be able to get a silver. but in our hearts, we know we are a gold band.
well, u heard what Jasen had said. he is happy with us that we played well during SYF.
and he was surprised that we can even play that well.
well our mission is over. we rocked the stage.
we made ourselves,the seniors,teachers and especially Mr.Goh proud. :D
and thats wad matters. :D
seeing my juniors crying is the last thing that i want to see.
so the sec 2's and sec 1's work harder for syf 2011 ok.
we the seniors will be supporting u from the back. :D

there is a saying that goes...
a gold medal is within our golden hearts. :D
well we may achieve bronze.
but wad matters is that we rock the stage.
we did our best. and we know that we are a gold band.
and thats wat matters the most. :D

You Guys Did A Splendid Performance.

Hi band. Hope you guys feeling better. No more crying alright.

You guys really did perform well on the stage just then. You guys did ROCK the stage and impressed us, the seniors and teachers with what you guys have displayed earlier on. We love it. Its a GOLD for us. Do know that, getting a Bronze is far better than getting COP. Well, compare the feelings that we used to had upon getting COP, we actually broke down and cry. For the least you guys bring home a Medal whilst us, a toilet paper for the school and back then for our seniors too. We cant face them then.

It totally saddens us. Each and everytime, we came across the song "Into The Joy Of Spring". We would just feel a pinched and some of us even teared. Especially, the Sec 4 and Sec 5 seniors who were then graduating. But on the other hand, we knew we had done our best. We knew we already had our time up there, and no matter how many gallons of tears had dropped, it just wont turn around the time and give us that mere 2nd chance. Its seriously a lesson learnt. And yes even up till now, I can still recalled the cries/memories behind that song. Sob.

So now, you guys brought home Bronze. It seriously good enough. Remember what the teachers said, its the learning experiences matter. Whats more, you guys really did a wonderful performance then. Treasure whatever you guys been awarded for, its seriously the sweat, effort and time that you guys been spending for. Treasure it yeah. Please do know, we seniors did not blame you at all. Infact we are proud of you and the awesome performance then. Please stop blaming yourself as to us, we know you did your best. So keep it up. For leaders, remember "one for all, all for one". Dont just blame yourself. =) Be strong Aqilah!

Congratulations Juying Symphonic Band!

On the other note, graduating seniors please do not stop coming back to help the younger ones to achieve that Silver Medal in 2 years time. You can share your experiences with the younger one and motivates them towards getting that Silver. You can do your part to help Mr Goh. Please guys, turn up for the practices and yes "quality" practices. Give your all when you in the band room, listen to Mr Goh and the leaders. Thats the least you could do to put a smile back on Mr Goh. Remember guys, do cheer and make Mr Goh smile yeah.

at 4.45pm its our show.our judgement day
this is it. the final stage of the race.
we had survived the first few rounds. and this is the last one.

you heard the teachers,seniors and Mr.Goh.
what they had expect out of us.
and they had gone to the extend to arrange music exchange
for us to have confidence in ourselves. so that we can play well.

remember. today and tmorrow.
be mentally and physically prepared.
dont be nervous until it affects our playing.
:D heh cause we worked hard on sails of time
we must show off to the judges and other schools that we can play well. :D

and dont be nervous that there are many eyes on us
pretend that we are in band room
or doing a normal performance. :D

another thing is that ALWAYS look at Mr. Goh
he is our bus driver. and we are his passengers.
he is our tour guide. without him we would be lost. :D

well i dont expect u guys to memorise the whole score by heart.
but most of the time pls pls look at him.
cause he is the one queueing us when and where to come in. :D
ahha and he is the one who sets the tempo.

Dear Band,

You have come thus far just for the few minutes on stage on Mon. Its a battle that you guys had been practicing hard for. Give it your best ever shot. You know you have that Silver on your hand but do not be complacent till the war is over. Instead motivate each other and keep reminding each other try to make lesser mistakes. Try and aim for GOLD aite.

Every Section plays a part in this battle. Most of the seniors cant make it to support you guys, but nevertheless, they are still very concerned bout you. So Band, do us proud.

I wont keep repeating what your Bm and Senior Syabrina got to say. Somehow, thats the very message that each and every senior would want to pass it on to you.

hey JYSB1 more day till our syf.its the judging day. and a big day for each and every one of us.well majority of us is experiencing this for the first time.i would understand you would be nervous.well dont be ok.its our show.

lets rock the stage.whats more, we are the last band. :D remember what the seniors said,although the hall will be filled with audience,there is only us, our instrument, the scoreand the most important of all, Mr.Goh, our conductor. lets just concentrate on that. :D remember, we are playing music.feel the music, move along. watch out the dynamics. lets make minimum mistakes ok. :D remember our target, min-silver but lets try for GOLD! :DD

lets play what we have been practicing. all the effort that we have put in for the past few months. :D lets play well and beautiful music. :D its all about musicianship :D

Hi my beloved Juying bandsmen!! =) Its like 2 days away to 6th April 2009. Yea your judgement day..SYF!! How are u guys feeling rite nw?? Nervous? Excited?

I know your feelings rite now are all mixed up. I felt the same way before.. Its ok to feel nervous bt nt too much ok?? Ya on behalf of the seniors, Juying Symphonic Band alumni, I would like to wish All the very best to each and everyone of you! We will support all of u from everywhere and pray the very best for you guys.We are supporting u guys from our heart although most of us are busy with our own life and unable to support u guys at the Singapore Conference Hall...

Im deeply sad because i am not be able to see you guys on the day itself. I have to go for my school orientation camp. OUH MAN wrong timing...haiz...never mind. I'll pray for u guys..heheh Ok Juying Bandsmen..

For today, tomorrow and on the day itself, BE MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY prepared aitez. Remember don't let your fears or nervousness overcome u... U must overcome them. Picture the event on your mind.

On that day, its only between you, Mr Goh n your score.. Don't need to bother wat's infront of u.. Pretend there's nothing..No audience...No judges... Do not fidgit when playing.. Do not make unneccesory noises.. Don't tap your feet.. don't do mouth counting or hand counting or watever..hahah cuz i saw u did dat in band room especially percussion players.. Don't be KPO look at ur friends.. If your friends make mistake, just ignore aitez ..

Up instruments together... BE SHARP! BE ALERT! BE CONFIDENT! (bt not too confident or too complacent) Sit hallf a chair...do not slouch.. Eyes on conductor: Mr Goh ( he is your "driver" ). If u are confident, Mr Goh will be confident...he needs u... He needs the moral support from u guys!! Show to Mr Goh dat u are confident...give him the confident n assurance... He needs that!!

Take care of your health..no sweet drinks...no sleeping late at nite... U need ample rest.. Do not play vigorous games, worried that u might injured yourself.. So don't!!

Before boarding the bus, check your instruments, music file, scan through your music score, uniform ( including ur hair style..make sure its neat..girls clip ur fringe...guys comb ur hair properly..) make sure u tuck in properly, bow tie, hair n collar ribbon..stockings, guys black socks..girls u all know wat u must wear..shoes...

Percussion : check all the sticks that u need for both songs..accessories.. write it down in a piece of paper n put it all in the black bag. Make sure u all know and stand by which sticks to use for wat song, which part of the song..

Band/Drum Major/QM: remember conductor's score and baton..SL: Don't forget to bring Tuner..

In the tuning room, listen to Mr Goh.. I emphasize again..LISTEN..FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS..ALERT...BE SHARP n Be CONFIDENT. Make sure u all are in tune..

Trombone be careful of ur slide positions..3RD trumpet remember the notes that Mr Goh pointed out.. Flute don't drag the timing at the part (i can't remember exactly which part haha)..

Remember the secret recipes : Articulation, Dynamics, Emotion, Timing..when playing do no only listen to urself...listen to others also.. remember u are fighting in this war as a BAND...Don't drag the timing, look at Mr Goh..

Play with GUSTO n FEELINGS...BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS! BE CONFIDENT! ALERT! BE SHARP! ALL THE VERY BEST JYSB!!! U CAN DO IT!! GIVE UR VERY BEST! Keep ur spirit up high!

hey bandits. :D haha your band major here. just want to say that all the best for SYF on monday 060409. its the day where we will perform what we had worked onfrom the end of year until now.so on 060409 at 4.45pm, lets do our best cause its our show.

Lets play what we had rehearsed for the past few months. we are one band.in fact every player in the band is important as you had observed. no matter whether he/she is a soloist or not. so lets do our best. :D and dont be too nervous until it affects your playing. its our show. although there is many schools watching us, just ignore them. instead aww them.

If you make a mistake, make a mistake confidently so it doesnt seem like a mistake to the audience. :D but try not to make any mistake la. its all about us, our instrument, our score and mr goh. remember that. FOCUS on him. pretend like we are in band room ok. :D

so lets get that silver/gold and sing the BAND SONG! we can do it! nike . :D and we MUST achieve it. cause its the only chance that we got. so lets make the best out of it! :D lets shout: with pride and passion HURRAH! one band ONE SOUND! :D JYSB!
